Target Word™—Supporting Children who are Late Talkers

Updated: Jan 12

Is your child aged 18 to 30 months using few words to communicate? Are they not using many two-word combinations by 24 months?

Do they understand what they are told but when it comes to using words, their vocabulary is limited?

The Hanen Program® Target Word™ to support late talkers may be right for you!

Parent communicating with child

Target Word is designed for parents whose children between 18 and 30 months are not using as many words as is typical for their age. Although the children may meet other speech and language developmental milestones, they have difficulty communicating with words.

As a parent or caregiver, you can expect to learn the most effective strategies for enhancing young children’s expressive language development including how to respond when children communicate without words and how to turn everyday activities into language-learning opportunities.

About the Target Word program

Target Word is led by Genna Nichol, a Hanen-certified speech-language pathologist and founder of Aspire Speech.

The program is being offered either at our Bracebridge office or virtually from February 1 to June 30, 2024 and includes the following:

  • an individual assessment, consultation, and formal report before the program begins

  • five informative, interactive sessions for a small group of parents

  • two individual consultation appointments

  • opportunity to connect with other parents

  • the Target Word parent handbook
